Executive Functioning Coaching

It begins with a goal. We aim to learn the ‘soft-skills’ needed to improve engagement, from organising and note-taking to time management and assertive communication to set boundaries. And, we do so in a structured and systematic way so that each session models strategies that you can apply in your life outside of the sessions.

If you constantly struggle with distractions and procrastination, Executive Function Skills Coaching might be right for you.

Although coaching addresses learning and behavioral challenges; coaching is not therapy. Medical insurance does not reimburse for coaching services.

“I focus on things that I like” isn’t an effective strategy.

Research is clear

Executive functioning skills predict academic achievement in school. However, the research often leaves out that teenagers can’t wilfully improve their executive functioning skills or their ability to focus. Nature selected for a brain that needs two decades to develop. Executive functioning skills coaching for teens teaches them why and how to work with their current strengths. They begin to set visual reminders, create plans, and practice the emotion regulation skills that put them in control of their responses to distractions, allowing them to better tolerate difficult emotions like stress and anxiety.

Session follow-ups:

The best results happen when the student practices their new skills in and between the session. That’s why we will co-construct tasks to try out and its why I am available to you in between sessions.

What skills are covered?

Executive functioning coaching sessions typically incorporate a range of ‘soft skills’ necessary for performing well. Skills range from managing distractions, to time-management, planning, organisation and Mindfulness skills. Evidence shows that students who practice ‘Focusing’ by giving up effort -not exerting more of it- improve their focus and overall mental health. Learning how to organise your space to minimise the chances of distractions in the first place while also practicing skills to let them float by, you begin increasing time task.
