Rick Smith, Ed.D., PsyD.(abd), M.Ed.

Dr. Rick Smith has over 20 years experience as a counsellor focused on helping people understand and make changes in their day to day lives. His research background and clinical work applies evidence-based approaches to stress management and change, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). In his sessions, clients learn how to create and implement a plan to make changes in their behaviours, manage anxiety and reduce avoidance. 

In addition to providing mental health support, Dr. Smith has a special passion for treatment of ADHD and attention-related problems, such as procrastination and time management. He also supports clients with Dyslexia and processing delays.  He has published a book: STOP Reading: Reading strategies for non-readers which lays out an innovative framework for extracting and summarising content when reading line-by-line no longer seems to work.

His educational background includes a Doctorate in Education, Ed.D. (Bath, UK), a Doctorate of Clinical Psychology, PsyD. ABD (USA), a Masters in Education (USA), and advanced training in conflict resolution through Harvard’s Program on Negotiation.
